The ponds are located in the southern Arava and are a nesting station where flocks

of birds migrating from Europe to Africa sojourn before winter. During this season, millions of birds pass through the southern Arava, with many of them stopping at the various reservoirs and kibbutzim during their voyage. One of the flamingo flocks has permanently settled in the salt production ponds north of Eilat. The flamingos have learned to know the visitors and photographers, and occasionally hold a display of their white and pink plumage. Along with the flamingos, other bird species have also made the ponds their home, such as tattlers, stilts, lapwings and sandpipers.
